drag to rotate · tap a neuron to trace four hops

One fly.
Every wire.

In October 2024 the FlyWire Consortium published the wiring diagram of a whole adult brain: 139,255 neurons, 54.5 million synapses, one female fruit fly. The largest brain ever mapped completely. This is it, lit up.

Every claim on this page has a slide. The highlighted word is the one this token is named for: a fly, a brain, a wire.

FlyWire annotated every neuron with a cell type. Pick a name, get a neuron: the plate appears in the brain above and stays in your browser.

WHY A FLY

A worm has 302 neurons. A fly has 139,255 and can walk, see, court, learn and sleep. A mouse has around 70 million; a human, 86 billion. The fly is the biggest brain we have mapped wire by wire, and the first that behaves like something you would recognise.

Within four hops almost every neuron can reach almost every other, per Mala Murthy, one of the project leads. Tap the brain above to watch a signal do it.

Where the fees go

100% of $DROSO creator fees are routed to @sdorkenw: Sven Dorkenwald, first author of the Nature connectome paper and lead of the FlyWire proofreading platform, through bankrbot on Robinhood Chain.

He and 291 other consortium members spent five years proofreading one fly. The data is open. The coin is a tip.
